Leikona Fine Art Studio
Laura Leikona is proud to be a U.S. military wife, exploring and painting while serving with her husband and two children. She began private art lessons at the age of five with an artist friend of her mother's, whom she credits as being one of her best teachers. She participated in her first group show at an art gallery at age seven, which resulted in the first offer from a collector to buy one of her paintings. Since then she has participated in group shows in several states.
She has worked as an illustrator, Web and graphic designer. Her paintings, sculptures, and jewelry can be found in private collections throughout the United States. Her painting of "Tripler Imua: One Team" can be found hanging in the Command Suite and 4th floor wing of Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawai'i. She has donated many prints to help fundraising efforts at Tripler, and other military installations. Her work is currently featured on http://www.hailnfarewell.com/, where a portion of the proceeds from all sales benefit organizations that help soldiers and their families.
Leikona has also created many commissioned graphic illustrations and designs. She most recently illustrated a children's book by author Ben Woodard, "The Boy who flew with Eagles."
Leikona creates each original work of art by hand, without the use of airbrushing, projectors, or other technology. Paintings often go from drawings, to layer upon layer of oil mixed with pigment, sometimes taking many months to complete. She does not allow any of her fine art or reproductions to be altered with airbrushing, Photoshop or other software, and personally approves every print she sells.
Leikona enjoys traveling, and her work is heavily informed by the landscape and culture of the three different U.S. states she's lived in during the past decade. Of all the places she's lived, Hawai'i, her current home, is by far her most beloved.
